Modern Day Chiropractic or Are We Still in the Dark Fucking Ages??!

This is my newest bruise. The picture is grainy because I took it on my cell phone. I didn't want to give you too much detail..

Anyhoo... I got this from a hip adjustment yesterday. My hip actually does feel alot better, but this spot hurts like hell! I am not here to whine, I just am amazed that with today's modern medicine that practices like this are still used. I just wish there were an easier way.

In 1895 Daniel David Palmer began using chiropractic procedures to relieve patients ailments. Although these practices often work, it can still be an uphill battle to feel better.

Sometimes, I just wonder if I am wasting my time and money to ease the symptoms of a much larger problem that cannot be fixed.

I am beginning to feel like a Guinea Pig. I would like to ask you all how you feel about Chiropractors, since there has been so much debate about mine.

It seems brutal, but I have received a little relief and he is widely known in being able to treat patients without surgery, which I feel is a really good thing.

So what do you all think about this. I am always up for some feedback?...

I never really here anyone say I went to a chiropractor and it fixed my problem. I'm not sure what I make of it... Back plaster is good for bruises like that but it burns really good.

I've never been to one...I tend to stick to "regular" medical professionals but I suppose if I was in a position such as yours w/ chronic pain I would consider seeing one.

I am very very lucky never needed one, but we call them ruk en pluk dokters(pull and tuck docters)...hihihi
Have a good day, shame I hope the bruise gets better SOON.

I've never needed to go and see one, but have suffered from bad backs and shoulders every now and then. I always picture chiro's to be big hairy Turks with a mean streak, or (possibly just a fantasy of mine) strikingly powerful Nordic women with tight clingy white outfits on, with large bosoms rubbing against me as they do their job...

*cough* ;)

Anyway, if I did have such a problem with my back, I'd go and see a chiro' and be happy to pay the money over.
What are the alternatives Blanco? Agonising discomfort and trying to get up from bed or chairs like someone with cement in their joints, or a brief session where you are pulled, tugged and popped back into place with the proud bruises to show for it - and a free blog topic thrown in for good measure!
That blurry picture does look like a planet btw, possibly Ur anus.

Ho-dehoo!

Yeah I'm thinking that you shouldn't be left with bruises like that after a trip to the chiropractor. Maybe I'm wrong, but I've never heard of anyone coming back bruised.

You know me very well and you know the problems I have had with my back. I have been to numerous doctors, went through MRI's & even a CT scan, neurology tests, ms tests and x-rays, I was given cortozone (sp) shots, and pain meds, and each doctor has said the same thing...sorry, we can't find anything wrong with you. Just take this pill and when the pain subsides, you can quit taking it.

My first trip to see a Chiro, he sent me to have another scan, which I knew was useless. When I went back to see him a few days later he told me exactly what was wrong with me began treating me for degenerative disk disease and as well as a herniated disk.

So yeah, I thoroughly believe in Chiropractors.

It is an ongoing battle though.

I will be fine for a few months, sometimes I can even go a year without any pain, but out of no where, my back goes out and the process starts over with the chiro!

I refuse to have surgery. My mom has had surgery and she has never been the same. It didn't help her whatsoever, she is actually worse. I will just have to have a motorized wheelchair when I can no longer walk. :(

Too each their own. I am now finished ranting. ;)

I've never heard of anyone ending up bruised...have you thought about getting a secod opinion?

I hate to say it, but I've never been to the chiropractor. Everyone says 'don't go unless you need to, because you'll be going forever'.

I totally believe them.

al- now that you have that off your chest feel better??

the thought kinda creeps me out.
-and you were just exposed to the flabberness of the outer region of mianus ;O HA!

jay- tha's what i thought too, but then again the original pain went away.. what the crap yo?

pook- i know you have had your bouts and know this better than anyone. did this ever happen too you?

another quick thought, have you ever tried a TENS machine? I have severe arthritis in my spine and pills do nothing but the TENS machine works - sometimes!

Blanco: I have never been bruised during a treatment. Have you spoken to your Chiro about it yet? If not you need to! Maybe, HOPEFULLY, he has an explanation for why this happens, and what can be done to help prevent it.

I'm sure you know this, but I will say it anyway...certain meds, if taken regularly & aspirin will make you bruise more easily, as well as having a minor deficiency of vitamins C & K.

So PLEASE talk to your health care provider. just curious...who are you seeing?? (you can email me if you don't want to repeat it here)

You are in my thoughts and prayers and SUGAR BABY I MISS YOU BUNCHES!! MOUWAAH.

KEEP US INFORMED!!!!!!!!! that's an order!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pookie said...

Oh yeah...yes, this is a good year for me thus far...last year was a real bitch. :) Thank you for asking. NOW GET SOME REST AND TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR (CHIRO)!!!

I've heard good things from people I know who use chiro's but never heard any of them say they were hurt by one.

Heal soon strange one.

first to corky, I had severe nerve damage to the point I could not even sit up. I went through a year of using an experimental prescription from the U of Michigan Hospital without much success.
I found a kind and caring Chiropractor who over time was able to alleviate some of my symptoms.
I still go whenever my back goes out which can be as long as a year.
I know after every session my discomfort gets corrected.
As in any profession there are good ones and bad ones...ever get a bad dentist who sees nothing but dollar signs and does a shoddy job?
been there done that!

blanco I've been going over 20 years and I've never seen or heard of an adjustment being so heavy it caused severe bruising like this.
It doesn't sound right and I would call around and get a second opinion.

Top Cat, you sure you're not a chiropractor in real life? Just kidding dude. That's one vote for chiropractors and I wont forget it.

I bundle them with lawyers and accountants

pauline- i haven't heard of that, but i am willing to try it. i will look into that today!

pook- from what i understand from the doc is that it is normal to bruise after a treatment like mine because he is dealing with some sort of adhesions that make my muscles pull on the hip joints the wrong way. he said if he can get them worked out it would aleviate some hip pain. i guess i will wait and see..

michael- awe.. thank you. i take it as a compliment :)

cat- maybe people are right and i just bleed more than i should. maybe others don't bruise like i do?

corky- he knows about alot of good stuff. cat's the bomb!
maybe you won't ever need one.

mike- wow.. like 'em that much eh?

Hmmm... I wouldn't know, never been to one. On the other hand, surgery is quite torturous too, so you'll just have to pick the lesser of the two evils, I guess...:-)

Maybe you could sue the pants of the good Doctor for his flagrant quackery? Oh yeah--he's not a real doctor. I'm sorry to hear about the injury, though.

Last month I had my tetnis shot renewed. It was going fine, then in mid shot, the nurse goes "now don't tense up". It was as if she shocked me subtley with elctrodes, because I imeadiatly tensed up in an effort to not tense up. This time, unlike all other times, I bruised black and blue, and a month later I still have a not of torn tissue scarring in the same spot. Pissed me off. I was looking away and everything on purpose, and she had to make sure I injured my self on her needle. Arghh/end of rant.

Thanks for listening, and I do hope the bruising fades--but not before trial. Nail them to the wall litigation style, Blancodeviosa.

Peace out

eve- no, surgery is not a good option!

eric- that's what happens when someone tells us NOT to do something. i used to tell my daughter not to touch electricity or light bulbs.

she still does it!..

but no, i don't want to sue. my hip is doing much better now and i haven't been getting migraines like i used too soo..
maybe it just needs time.

Howdy Odessa, former Midland here.
I think you can get good and bad chiropractors. I got a good one that REALLY helped my lower back pain. I also bruise easily, and your bruise is a doozy. It looks like their hand slipped from position when they did the adjustment. If the bruise gets feeling well in a few days, and the hip stays feeling better, hey...I vote for chiro.
There are so many 'wives tales' surrounding chiropractors, or "quacks" as we called em. Another possibility is to find an osteopath, as opposed to a chiropractor.
Speak up about the bruise, and evaluate the answer you get.
